Neutering or Spaying = No aggression in dogs… FALSE!

“One can be devoted to a woman, but can't be stopped from ogling at others. That is an instinct which can't die whatever procedures one performs on the external body”. - Manoor Sachdev

Aggression in a dog is an Instinct; nothing can take it away or calm it down, unless in the human world the pet owner has the will to do it. In almost 99.99% cases that “C. S” has worked on be it Pedigree or Stray, the pet owners have either Neutered or Spayed their dogs or are willing to at suggestions of people who themselves say “We can’t guarantee, but it might help”.

We would appreciate & understand if anyone had said… do the procedure for the greater good which is to control the over population of dogs.

Yes, neutering or spaying does take away excitement, aggression & calms the dogs down but only when the female dogs are on heat. It prevents any male dog fights when they smell a female dog and are in a pack. Spaying helps the female dogs by not getting on heat to begin with or get excited when she meets an interesting male dog. Studies have suggested that spaying or neutering may increase possessive aggression towards human companion but is inconclusive, I mention this because we have come across cases that said that the dog started biting the owner after the procedure.

We would always suggest anyone to spay or neuter a dog, but it should only be for the greater good of not over crowding the streets or have the puppies in an unstable home. There is no easy way to achieve a calm & well balanced dog. The only way to achieve it is that the pet owner understands their animals instinct, who is a dog & not only the cute dog who is a baby. Treating your dog as a baby is a good therapy for humans & the dog will agree with your demand, but in return the dog will always appreciate if you can understand their instincts & guide them in the right direction being a calm & assertive leader.

If your dog is not neutered or spayed we suggest you take the following precautions;
  • Always walk your male dog in the open world with the leash on;
  • Always check if any female is on heat when going to a off-leash dog parks (we anyways don't have many, but we tend to off-leash them in human parks where there could be female strays on heat)
  • If you have a male & a female dog at home, try & keep them separate or if you can - ask your friends to help you by keeping your male dogs for that period;
  • Train your dog to have him under control when around other dogs, which will keep them from getting into fights in general & on command when a female dog on heat is in the area;
  • A dog can smell a female dog on heat from a distance of approximately 6kms, so never let your dog sneak out of the open door, because you never know where he might end up;
From our personal experience spaying or neutering a dog can lead to rejection from a regular pack of other dogs your dog ones enjoyed playing with. It is because of a simple reason that dogs use their smelling sense before sight or sound & the neutered or spayed dog looses his unique smell.

Another way to avoid having an aggressive pet at home will be - Never to buy a dog off the shelf because they will have multiple behavioral issues.

To begin with, various behavioral  issues in "puppies off the shelf" arise because -
  • The puppy has not spent enough time with the mother & will not have the basic etiquette's to behave in a human world which comes from the mother & the litter which becomes a pack;
  • A puppy should spend minimum 55days with the mother & the litter, also should be socialized with strange humans from 45th day to 50days;
  • You will never know the history of off the shelf puppies, of how they were breed & if they are a product of puppy mills or back door breeding.
Canine Solutions is dedicated to bring balance in the human & his pets lives. We wish to see you & your pet understand each other to have best companion in life.

Harness for your dog...

“A smart consumer can change the world and start an end to competition... which will change what all, start thinking…” - Manoor Sachdev

There are many and different products available in the market to please every consumer and needs shoved on him. There are many things we pick up we don’t need and there are many things lying which we ignore, knowing they are the most essentials in our lives. A human can talk and show their discontent in the product the other human has picked up, but a dog can’t talk and tell you what he wants or what is discomforting for him.

Harness is one such product; amazingly I see a lot of dog owners very excited to buy it or have already bought one and using it on their pet. I ask each dog owner the reason they use a harness on their dogs and pat come the answer, someone suggested it. Hmmm… what can I suggest??? …. Thinking… meanwhile let’s look at the different kind and real work of harness…

Harness should be used on working dogs only. By working dogs I mean, Assistance Dogs - dogs who are used to gently help mentally or physically disabled humans in their daily routine. Pulling Dogs - dogs that are used to pull cargo, people, work in high terrain areas where vehicles are not available. Police Dogs - dogs that are specially trained to perform variety of tasks for the handler. Harnesses are also used for fighting dogs which helps intensify a dogs rage when in the ring. A working dogs job is to lead its human in direction to achieve his/her goal, thus the harness came into existence. A harness does not help controlling the dogs; instinctively and psychologically a harness only tells them to pull.

In most cases I have come across humans with small dogs are suggested harnesses… how clever! Exploit the right market (I am still thinking what to suggest… Hmmm?). Has anyone ever thought why harnesses are mostly suggested to small dogs, the only reason behind it is the lack of leadership and control of the consumer on his/her dogs. Indirectly the one suggesting you is insulting you for being that kind of a dog owner… according to me, while he or the consumer doesn’t even know that. Because he only knows what the one who sold him said about the harness to sell further “that this thing controls small dogs better, your sales and customers will boom if you suggest this to the small dog owners”. Ha… what a shame!

A small dog owner is suggested the harness because as soon as the small dogs make you uncomfortable in any situation like when on a walk or in the house, you can pick him up and take them away from the situation as a correction due to their light weight. But do you know what you are doing to your dogs psychologically depending upon their individual instincts. You are taking away control from the dog without facing or correcting the situation, doesn’t matter if it is your dogs bad or someone or something else’s bad; You are taking his pride away, by lifting him of the floor; You are pushing his confidence to the lowest; You are pushing him towards depression in his life and much more. And then, human complaints later that my dog is dull and doesn’t react to anything positive or negative, doesn’t allow us to lift him to cuddle him or pet him… which then leads to many inhuman decisions & gives birth to another consumer by digging a deep hole in the pockets.

The dogs don’t care about how much money or time you are spending on them??? What they care about is… if you are a good leader; if you can show them a right path to follow in the human world, if you understand the animal in him and if you are in control of any given situation. A dog is always ready to please you by understanding the human in you & only expects that in return, but consumerism does not allow us to think or take out time to understand & exercise the human in us. It is sad… weather it is true or not I hope to hear from you…

Lastly, I still can’t think of that one thing I would like to suggest for you to get, because… I don’t feel intelligent enough to suggest another human who has equal mind, body and energy like me about what and what not he/she should buy. I can only help humans understand their four legged friends hence I am at your service under “Canine Solutions” banner.

Non Dog Lovers & Aggressive Stray Dogs - How to deal with them...

A Child is conditioned to become a non dog lover and an aggressive stray dog is the result of that child’s conditioning. Manoor Sachdev - Canine Solutions

Non dog lovers, as you might have already got the gist from the above quote, but let me elaborate further. No human is born to hate or dislike anything for that matter of fact. It is the conditioning from the very first day the mother realizes of her conception. Well this is a completely different topic... will talk about it when it is the right time, right now lets concentrate on the current topic.

Non Dog Lovers and how to deal with them - Non dog lovers have many types according to a lot of people, but I know of three types A. ones who are petrified of dogs, so they dislike them and B. are the ones are who mostly don't like anything in life and they use dogs or anything that they can overpower to vent out their frustrations (this is the type which includes all different types people describe individually) & C. are the ones who like to flaunt their so called authority.

Type A's are very easy to handle, give them their space and don't try to push them to like a dog let them warm up to it. In the process don’t restrict your dogs to a room or anywhere but let them be with the family all the time & for that you need to have complete control over the dog, you need to define rules, boundaries and understand in the dog to differentiate between people. Do to not allow your dog to jump, push, lick, bark or be in the face of these type of people, which will help them to warm up to a presence of a dog in the same room as them and in time to have a dog in their lives by getting inspired from your well behaved and a understanding dog. I have converted such people and this process works miracles!!!

Type B’s are the ones no one should ever entertain on the streets or at ones homes. They need to face the same situation as they put a dog through; this is how you do it,
  • If you see these types of people on the streets you take control of the situation first by stopping them from hurting the dog. Do that by being calm and authoritative for example: If you see someone troubling / hurting the dogs - In this situation you need to be calm but with authority. Just say a loud HEY! Not with anger but with authority, this will attract everyones attention towards you including the dog. Once achieved that and when the dog is looking at you just call him by patting on your thigh excitedly (don't bend or kneel), as soon as the dog moves towards you, start walking away from him but continue the patting and calling, this will tell the dog to follow you. Once the dog has followed you let him go, don't take him too far out of his territory just get him out of the situation. This type of human will try to pass remarks or argue with you, just let him talk and pretend you don't understand a word and keep walking like they are the dogs barking and you a human can't understand their language, which will give them a clear message and in time after repetitions will stop them from engaging with the dogs completely. (Some of these types are adamant, for them try the above procedure a couple of times if it doesn’t work just try reaching the authorities, which is in most cases is a useless exercise but you can always try your luck.)
  •  At homes if these type of humans are pushy about having your dog leashed or shut in a room, please tell them that your dogs are well behaved and they don’t need to give you directions of how to keep your dog, but for this again you need to have complete control over your dog as mentioned above. Otherwise you are creating more friction between the dogs and these type of human beings. This also does not solve the purpose of a dog being in your life. One needs to understand that dogs are the best way one can improve their social lives and not purge it. If you ignite this friction further you are the one who will suffer at the hands of the society and there will be one less home who will ever agree to give shelter to a dog. Only your well behaved dog and you as a social person will create lot more homes for our four legged friends.
  •  These are the types who like to show off and just like to trouble a not so knowledgeable dog lover, while they themselves have zilch knowledge but take advantage of the authority they have been “GIVEN”. So, to tackle these types a dog lover should always be knowledgeable about the dogs, the laws and the do’s & do not in the public areas. If the dog lover just does not remain a dog lover and becomes a knowledgeable dog lover these types will hide in their shells.
A dog lover should never exhibit being angry, frustrated, irritated, fighting or crying it weakens one and makes the situation worst and also for the four legged friends. I know one is getting angry on another human being who is trying to hurt the dog, trying to lecture you on how to handle your dog or trying to govern you just because they have some kind of authority. But let me make it clear that if you do all the opposite of the above and are knowledgeable dog lover you will be in better situation to help the dog and yourself, also you will make other humans dog friendly and prospective dog lovers.

Aggressive Stray Dogs and how to deal with them – “beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder” (here beauty refers to a dog’s behavior). So when a human who is not knowledgeable about dogs looks at a stray, judges the expression only to be aggressive and reacts uncertainly, feared or with a stone he/she is confusing the animal and pushing the dog to defend itself by becoming aggressive(because their first instinct is survival). A dog might bark with pauses looking at a person and then would continue while approaching, which is only a warning that I am not sure about your presence and I want to be sure by smelling you, but the reaction of a insecure human converts that unsure dog into protecting its territory and defending himself from any harm weather you mean it or not by barking continuously and challenging you by jumping towards you but not reaching you. This might turn into a bite or a long run and chase episode. So the question is how to deal with the a stray dog,
  • If one does not like dogs, he/she should never look at the dog and should carry on with their business, never try to talk to the dog to get out of a situation and never judge the dog, because the dog will instantly grab onto ones nervous energy;
  • If caught in a situation of a barking and charging dog, never present yourself as a prey by running or by just giving into the dog’s growl, bark or charging. Always present yourself calm, confident and stand your ground looking away but always have the dog in sight from the corner of your eye, if the dog is charging just pretend to step towards him assertively and move back once he steps back (which the dog will do certainly). Once the dog calms down or looks away try walking away very calmly and don’t show your back to the dog completely, this tells the dog that I am giving you your space but I am alert about your movement.
  • Never exhibit excited body language or use your own loud voice, that only excites the dog further and seems threatening to him;
  • Nerve crowd the dog with other humans because the dog will try to escape and in the process could bite someone.

In simple words let the dogs be and give them their space if you can’t be friendly with them. Don’t try to shoo them away from where they are because they are not the ones encroaching onto human territory, it is the other way around. Our only aim at Canine Solutions is to remove strays from the streets across India & give them a loving home. In return we assure every human being, be it dog lovers or otherwise that you will receive unconditional love, loyalty & a lot of good health.
